Over 83 percent turnout in West Bengal re-polling

Kolkata, May 13 (IANS): Over 83 percent polling percentage was recorded Tuesday in re-polling in 11 booths spread across six of the nine Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal that went to the hustings April 30.

At the scheduled close of polling, an 83.10 percent turnout was recorded. The entire process was peaceful, an Election Commission official said here.

The Election Commission had ordered repolling in the 11 booths under Arambagh and Hooghly constituencies in Hooghly district, Burdwan and Burdwan-Durgapur constituencies in Burdwan district and Birbhum and Bolpur constituencies in Birbhum district.

The district wise polling percent for the repolls stood at Hooghly 84.05, Birbhum 83.41 and Burdwan 83.00.

The EC had ordered repolling following scrutiny of reports after the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Front, the Bhartaiya Janata Party and the Congress alleged massive rigging and booth capturing by the ruling Trinamool Congress activists during the third phase of election April 30 and sought re-polling in a large number of booths.
