It was a difficult battle, says Mamata

Kolkata, May 16 (IANS): Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee Friday dedicated her party's stupendous performance in the Lok Sabha election to the people but said the electoral battle this time was "difficult".

"The battle this time was difficult. Riding on money power, some parties ran a one-sided campaign. Not only that, there was a concerted effort to malign us and even central agencies were used," the West Bengal chief minister said, as her party won 11 out of 14 seats results of which were so far declared.

"I express my gratitude to the people who braved the heat and the malicious campaigns by the rivals, and voted for us. I also express my gratitude to my colleagues and party workers and dedicate this victory to the people," she said.

Banerjee also ridiculed the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Front which was heading towards its worst performance in the state.

"Despite launching a massive malicious campaign against us, the CPI-M now has disappeared. So what the use of such politics? It's not only the rivals but a section of the media also lined up against us.

"Will such valueless politics continue? We have seen in this election, how those who have money started a one-sided campaign, whether at the national level or the regional," Banerjee added.
