La Paz, May 17 (IANS): Bolivian football team Bolivar will be going to the 2014 Brazil World Cup as a bonus for defeating Argentine rival Lanus 1-0 Libertadores Cup quarter-final match.
Club president Guido Loayza said Friday, Bolivian millionaire and team owner Marcelo Claure promised to invite the players to see the World Cup final if they beat Lanus Thursday and advanced to the regional tournament's semi-final round, which they did, reports Xinhua.
Claure had said earlier, "If Bolivar qualifies, the players and coaching staff will accompany me to the World Cup final."
As one of the region's top four teams, Bolivar is set to play Argentine team San Lorenzo de Almagro in Buenos Aires July 23 in what will be the first leg of two matches.
San Lorenzo eliminated Brazil's Cruzeiro to advance to the semi-finals.
