FIFA issues World Cup ticket warning

Rio de Janeiro, May 23 (IANS): Football's governing body FIFA has warned that fans with unauthorized tickets will be barred from entering stadiums during the World Cup.

The Zurich-based body expressed concern in a statement released Thursday about the illegitimate ticket sales for the June 12-July 13 event, reported Xinhua.

"Over the last few weeks, we have unfortunately seen more and more people leaving our ticket centres disappointed as they failed to collect their tickets purchased through unofficial websites," FIFA said.

According to FIFA "companies, websites and individuals" are "offering tickets to unsuspecting fans through unauthorised resells at exorbitant prices".

Online events ticket vendor Stubhub has quoted resold tickets for the Brazil-Croatia tournament opener June 12 at $2,300.
