Kejriwal's custody extended till June 6

New Delhi, May 23 (Zee News): Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Friday was sent to 14-days judicial custody in the defamation case filed by senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin Gadkari.

Kejriwal was arrested on Wednesday and sent to Tihar Jail till today after he refused to furnish bail bond of Rs 10,000 in a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by Gadkari.

Earlier, Kejriwal said that it is ironical that there is not even a probe into corruption allegations on Gadkari, and those who raise voice are in jail.

The AAP had on Thursday announced that it would approach a higher court against the magistrate's decision to send Kejriwal to judicial custody in a defamation case.

AAP leaders and Kejriwal's wife Sunita met the former Delhi chief minister in prison yesterday. A court had on Wednesday sent him to judicial custody for two days after he refused to furnish a bail bond of Rs 10,000 in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, whom Kejriwal called "corrupt".

"We will wait till Friday as whether the court allow him bail, then will decide our future strategy. We will call our volunteers' meet and decide," party leader Gopal Rai said.

He said the party will go to the people of Delhi and tell them about the corrupt deeds of Gadkari.

Talking to reporters, another AAP leader, Prashant Bhushan, had said: "The bail bond is required only when the court feels that an accused can flee. Did the court feel that Kejriwal will run away?"

If AAP ADMI opens his mouth to say that there are some very corrupt in the political leadership he is hounded, battered. Instead the court should ask straight away to prove what he is accusing of. Tell the govt to investigate. Unfortunately the whole set up is pro rich, protect the corrupt because you cannot charge him before proving Time to wake up give a free chance to anybody to point out the corrupt. Let him prove he is not corrupt,

If there was precedence of not furnishing personal bond, Kejriwal might appeal.
otherwise he have to abide by the decision of court, that's all. Simple solution.
Everyone is responsible for their actions and inaction.

What is the truth Mr. Kejriwal you are talking about? If you have any evidence, then please furnish it before the court. Please note that court is not the election maidan, where you can do whatever you want. Dont consider yourself as satya harischandra, If that is the case why courts are there? we will just ask you who is corrupt and put then into jail. Also, please note that as an Indian resident you are bound to follow the rule of the land. Either you submit the evidence or rot in jail. Do not expect the court will change the law of the country for you. Also, as per constitution of India, no one is guilty until it is proved. So, first prove that Nitin is corrupt and come out of jail – your place in Tihar jail will then be taken by Nitin. If you cannot do that, then you better stay in jail. I also plead to the Govt to take on the AAP supporters strictly as per law if they try to make a hungama again in this issue.
Also dont think that court is biased. These lower courts can be questioned in upper courts. Lower court cant give any judgement like that. If they are procven wrong at the upper court it will be a big set back for the judges.

Good decision by the court. Book him under any Non bailable offense and keep him behind the bar forever. Indian people doesn't need such a violent leader to disturb peace of the society.

Is Yugpursh Kejriwal trying to save himself from the anger of 421 AAP candidates who have lost deposits by staying in Jail ??

He preferred 2 days of Jail drama than Rs 10k, Now comes the thrill, will he prefer 14 more days of sleepless nights in jail, or someone sponsor him a 10k.. just wait n watch..

I hope this is not vindictive politics. The crime / establishment of the same / procedure adopted .. all these I hope are constitutional and make India proud.

Kejrival surely is not corrupt, he is not a seasoned politician so may be not keeping his mouth shut and looking for the right moment to open it.

Gadkari is no saint. There could be some element of truth in Kejrival's disclosure. Till the truth is established, how can he be behind bars? Is this what going to happen to every citizen who wants to be a whistle blower?

Is this a silencing technique? Hope the judiciary is fair... as per the finest point in constitution.

India, hold yourself high, the whole world is watching you. Dismantle all people in power if they are not saving your grace.. how.. you alone know mother India. We are under your shelter, looking to see your wisdom, power and compassion towards your children.

    jacintha,
if you have time go through the blog by Capt Gopinath.
Since Capt Gopinath is AAP member himself his view is not with malice.
Kejri in this case is clearly at fault.
He called Gadkari corrupt (no issues)
Gadkari filed criminal defamation case (he is well within his rights)
court asked Kejri to appear before court to present his argument and or press charges (court procedure)
Kejri did not appear in person. sent emissary on his behalf to say he is busy with election campaigning (Kejri miscalculated here thinking this is political case. it was not. it is a CRIMINAL defamation case)
Court observed that the person has time to make allegation but has no time to give proof (court considers such action - not appearing when asked - as contempt)
So warrant was issued (Court procedure)
Once warrant is issued the person automatically becomes accused as per law. Kejri became an accused.
Court asked Kejri to submit bail bond (Court procedure) which he refused to comply. (another mistake)
Judge sent him for 2 days judicial custody for not complying and also noted that Kejri's action was deliberate attempt to insult judiciary.
Kejri did not make amends to his mistake. Now the court has given 14 days custody. Bond amount also got increased.
If Kejri does the same thing on 6th June he might end up more than 3 months.
He is digging his own grave.
See the court action against Tejpal and Subrata Roy
soon Vijay mallya may face the heat
General advice - Not to mess up with Court.
Manish Tiwari was clever. He sent unconditional apology to Gadkari and the latter promptly withdrew the case
