Modi will visit Bangladesh first: Report


Dhaka, May 23 (IANS): Bangladesh will be the first country Narendra Modi will visit after becoming India's new prime minister, a Bengali daily here reported Friday.

India's external affairs ministry has already started the process to finalize the dates for the visit, Bhorer Kagoj newspaper quoted diplomatic sources as saying in New Delhi.

It said if Modi selected Bangladesh as his first destination abroad, it would mean he wants to establish close business ties between the two countries.

Modi will take oath as prime minister Monday. Bangladesh's parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will attend the ceremony.
