China greets Modi through Indian envoy

Beijing, May 23 (IANS): China Friday formally greeted Indian Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi and expressed its willingness to work with India to strengthen the strategic and cooperative partnership between the two Asian countries.

At a meeting between India's Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing Friday, the two countries discussed ways and means to strengthen bilateral relations during the course of 2014, an Indian embassy statement said Friday.

Wang also appreciated the outgoing Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his contribution to India-China relations over the last 10 years.

The Indian ambassador conveyed the Indian government's strong condemnation of the terrorist attack Thursday at Urumqi city in China's Xinjiang province.

While condoling the deaths of blast victims, Kantha stressed that India opposed terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
