London, May 26 (IANS): If you have saved intimate photos of your ex-girlfriend on your phone - and she does not like it that way - you may be legally asked to delete them.
In a significant ruling on “revenge porn”, a higher regional court in Koblenz, Germany, has told a local man he should have had deleted erotic photos of his former girlfriend as soon as she asked him to.
The man from the Lahn-Dill region in Hesse had taken several erotic photographs of his female partner.
After the end of their relationship, the woman had demanded the deletion of the images, seeking legal help when the man refused, according to media reports.
“The girlfriend's personal rights trumped the ownership rights of the boyfriend,” the court ruling noted, according to The Local, an English-language German newspaper.
The cases of “revenge porn" - where people publicly post intimate photos of their ex-girlfriends - are on the rise worldwide.
California last year became the first US state to come down hard on “revenge porn”.
