Kabul, May 26 (IANS): A suicide bomber targeted a bus carrying Afghan national army personnel in capital Kabul Monday, killing at least four people, including himself, and wounding four others, an army officer at the site of the blast said.
"A suicide bomber riding an explosives-laden motorbike blew himself up next to a bus of national army personnel at around 3.15 p.m. today, leaving four persons dead and wounding four others," the officer told Xinhua but declined to be named, saying authorised officials would brief the media.
However, he confirmed that two of those killed in the blast were women.
The bomber was also killed in the blast, he added.
Meanwhile, Kabul police chief Mohammad Zahir, in talks with the media at the site of the blast, confirmed that three people were injured in the incident but added that the exact figure of the casualties would be made public only after completion of investigation.
Militancy has been on the rise since the Taliban launched the so-called spring offensive May 12 in Afghanistan.
