Two Kenyan soldiers killed by militants

Nairobi, May 26 (Xinhua): Suspected Al Shabaab militants Monday killed two Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers and injured another at the common frontier with Somalia, Kenyan police said.

Divisional police commander Samson Obara, who confirmed the incident, said the military officers were attacked by the insurgents who emerged from the forest along Lamu Malindi road on a pick-up vehicle, according to Xinhua.

"The KDF soldiers flagged them to stop but the militants defied the order and instead opened fire on the soldiers. This prompted the exchange of fire between the militants and our soldiers who later blew up the pickuUp, killing the occupants on board," Obara said.

Kenyan soldiers have launched a major manhunt for more than 100 Al Shabaab militants following the ambush.

Obara did not confirm the number of insurgents who were killed. Sources told Xinhua that there were 26 KDF soldiers in the convoy.
