Indian envoy hails UAE's efforts in human, labour rights

Dubai, May 29 (IANS/WAM): India's Ambassador to the United Emirates (UAE) T.P. Seetharam has praised the efforts made by the UAE in human rights and in maintaining labour rights.

The envoy made the remarks during a meeting Wednesday with Mohammed Hussein Al Hammadi, deputy chairman of the Emirates Human Rights Association (EHRA) and other members of the association.

"The UAE is a destination of choice for lots of Indian workers and investors who enjoy stability, security and excellent treatment. The Indian embassy barely gets complaints from members of the Indian community," he added.

Al Hammadi highlighted the UAE's efforts to promote human rights culture among the different communities and the association's programmes for different communities in the country, including Indian workers.

The UAE is home to around two million expatriate Indians, a large majority of whom are engaged as blue collar workers.
