Turkish army holds military exercises


Istanbul, May 30 (IANS): Turkish army has conducted military exercises on a large scale in Izmir province, a media report said Thursday.

The military drill with the code name -- EFES-2014 -- was held in Doganbey gulf of Seferhisar district, Xinhua reported. 

The drill started Wednesday and Turkey's all units such as air, naval and land forces commands are taking part in the drill with 8,500 soldiers' particpation.

The drill aims to make troops and garrisons gain the ability to operate jointly and increase their training level, the report added. 

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Defence Minister Ismet Yilmaz and Chief of Staff General Necdet Ozel watched the performance on the second day of the live-firing exercises. 

Along with Turkish governmental and military officials, 51 foreign military members were also present on this occasion.
