Manjeshwar, May 30: A homemaker died after falling seriously ill and four people were hospitalized after consuming lunch near Pavooru here.
Appi Poojarthi (60), wife of late Janardhan Poojary, a resident of Mudimaaru Balehittilu, Pavooru died after consuming food. Her relatives Yogisha (28), son of Aithappa Poojary, a resident of Balehittilu, Harinakshi (26), wife of Seetharama Poojary, resident of Fajir grama Chavadi and their daughter Yateeksha (2) have been admitted to a private hospital in Deralakatte due to serious sickness. Besides that Damodar Poojary, a resident of Kuppepadav and brother of Appi Poojarthi has also been admitted to Kankanady hospital in Mangalore.
Damodar, Yogisha, Harinakshi and Yatiksha had come to Appi's house on Monday May 26. The relatives felt sick and giddy; they began vomiting after consuming lunch in her house. They were then taken to Deralakatte hospital while Appi Poojarthi was taken to Mangalore Wenlock hospital. However, she died on Wednesday being unable to respond to treatment.
Damodar Poojary who ate lunch also felt sick while going back to his house and got himself admitted to Kankanady hospital.
Doctors have suspected that a poisonous creature like a lizard might have fallen in the food and has caused the illness.
The deceased Appi has left behind her brother Kuppepadavu, Kantappa Poojary, Damodar Poojary, sister Sunanda and a large number of relatives.
The hospitalized people are said to be out of danger and are being treated in the intensive care unit.
