Chandy to meet Modi Monday

Thiruvananthapuram, May 30 (IANS): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who had sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been asked to meet him Monday, said a Kerala government source.

Chandy had already said that he has sought an appointment with Modi as he was unable to attend the swearing-in ceremony due to an urgent personal matter in his house.

However, even though it is going to be a courtesy call, Chandy is carrying with him some important pressing needs for which the state is awaiting the central nod and would also suggest programmes that the central government should include in their 100 day programme which would be beneficial to Kerala, according to the source.

Incidentally this is the first time in several years that the union cabinet has no representation from Kerala, with the BJP yet to open its account in the 20 Lok Sabha and nine Rajya Sabha seats of the state. Even in the 140-member Kerala assembly, the situation is the same.
