New Delhi, May 31 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday met various BJP general secretaries to discuss the party's future plans, including the upcoming polls in Haryana and Maharashtra as well as choices for party president, party sources said.
The meeting took place at Modi's official residence, 7 Race Course Road, and was attended by around 10 general secretaries of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), sources said.
Sources added that Modi advised the general secretaries to cooperate among themselves and with other party leaders. Several other party leaders, including various MPs, also attended the meeting which lasted for over an hour.
A party leader who did not wish to be named told IANS that issues related to the organisational structure were discussed during the meeting.
Out of the party's general secretaries, three have been inducted into Modi's 46-member council of ministers. Party president Rajnath Singh and three vice presidents have also become ministers.
Modi also discussed the choice of the new BJP president with the general secretaries. General secretaries J.P. Nadda, Amit Shah, and P. Muralidhar Rao are in the race for BJP president.
Party leader Varun Gandhi, MP from Sultanpur, tweeted: "Inspired by motivational message from PM Narendra Modi ji at a meeting with party GS (general secretaries) to serve party and nation with renewed vigour."
