Three civilians killed in Afghan blast

Kabul, June 4 (IANS): At least three civilians were killed and 12 others wounded when a bomb went off in Afghanistan Wednesday, sources said.

The explosion occurred in Maimana city, the provincial capital of Faryab province, Wednesday morning.

"An improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated on Ludin Road around 9.30 a.m. The blast left three passers-by dead and injured a dozen others," Sayyed Massoud, a provincial police spokesman, told Xinhua.

An investigation has been launched by the police, he said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility. The authorities blame Taliban militants for such attacks.
