New York, June 11 (IANS/CMC): Two-time Olympic gold medallist sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica has withdrawn from the Adidas Grand Prix, the New York leg of the Diamond League circuit, set for Saturday.
Last year’s Diamond League winner in both 100 and 200 metres and the 2013 World Championship triple gold medallist has been battling injury in recent weeks. Her injury had forced her to withdraw first from the Diamond League meet in Shanghai and finish eighth twice at meets in Rome and Eugene.
"We're sorry to report that Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, working to regain fitness after a minor injury this season, has withdrawn from the meet. Shelly-Ann, best of luck for the rest of the season and we hope to see you next year," the organisers said in a statement.
New York will now be the second meet from which the Jamaican has withdrawn. The 27-year-old multiple World and Olympic champion is reported to be suffering from shin splints which has affected her ability to train effectively.
Organisers are seeking a replacement for Fraser-Pryce, who was to compete in the 200m Saturday.
