Bhatkal, June 12: Bhatkal, which was reeling under severe heat received rain on Monday June 9 evening.

This brought a respite to the people and gave rise to the feelings of rainy season. It rained on Sunday evening and on Monday night. The rain recorded on Monday was 8.2 mm.

Murdeshwar, Manki, Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola and Karwar received rain on Monday.

The heavy rains caused the water level in the Arabian sea to rise. This discouraged the morning and evening walkers from going near the Bhatkal Bunder beach. The fishermen too stayed away from the sea; the fishing boats from Mangalore and Malpe were parked in the Karwar port.

In the house of Lakhshmi Manjappa Naik, a meterboard, switchboard, 21 inch TV, DVD, wiring of the house including a wall of the house were destroyed due to lightining.

The houses of Venkatram Nagappa Naik, Nagamma Channama Naik, Durgappa Sukrappa naik and Narayan Naik also underwent losses after their meterboards and fans were damaged.
