Asian Team Squash: Indian men in last eight


Hong Kong, June 12 (IANS): India won both their matches to enter the quarter-finals of the men’s team event in the Asian Team squash championship here Thursday.

India defeated Qatar and the Philippines by similar 3-0 margin to top their group and set up a quarter-final clash with Korea.

The Indian women, however, went down 1-3 to Hong Kong, but still have two more league matches in hand, against China and Pakistan Friday.

The results:

Men - India beat Qatar 3-0 (Harinderpal Singh Sandhu bt Ahmad Mohammed Al-Tamimi 11-4, 11-4, 12-10; Saurav Ghosal bt Abdulla Mohammed Al-Tamimi 9-11,11-6,11-7,12-10; Mahesh Mangaonkar bt Abdulrahman Salem Al-Malki 11-6,11-6,11-4).

India beat Philippines 3-0 (Ravi Dixit bt Lydio Espinola 11-4, 11-2, 11-4; Mahesh Mangaonkar bt Abdulrahman Salem Al-Malki 11-2, 11-3, 11-3; Harinderpal Singh Sandhu bt David William Pelino 11-2, 11-6, 7-11, 11-3).

Women - India lost to Hong Kong 1-2 (Anaka Alankamony lost to Tong 12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 5-11, 7-11; Dipika Pallikal lost to Joey Chan 11-9, 10-12, 11-4, 7-11, 8-11; Joshna Chinappa bt Liu Tsz Ling 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6).
