Panaji, Jul 17: The issue of a ban on electronic media to telecast state legislative assembly proceedings except question hour surface again on the floor of the house, this afternoon, with speaker Fransisco Sardinha taking strong exceptions to the leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar's statement in the local press.
"Leader of opposition is not expected to go the press and make comments on the speaker," Sardinha ruled today when assembly session began, this afternoon.
The BJP legislators had created noisy scenes in the house on Friday protesting speaker's decision to ban electronic media telecast the proceedings of the house except question hour. The house had to be adjourned for a day following chaos.
"My decision on the issue is questioned by leader of opposition terming it as undemocratic," speaker said pointing out to the news item in a local newspaper.
Sardinha said that the decision to restrict electronic media was taken using his regulatory authority. "Speaker is authorized to take such action to keep up dignity of the house," he said.
The leader of opposition, Parrikar, intervening in the house, said that speaker should question respective newspaper and not (not) him for the comments.
The peaker curtailed further debate on the issue calling for the question hour.
