KCR thanks Sonia Gandhi for formation of Telangana

Hyderabad, June 13 (IANS): Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao Friday thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her support for formation of separate Telangana state.

Speaking in the state assembly, he said it was due to her initiative that the dream of people of Telangana came true.

"I am placing my thanks to Sonia Gandhi on record in the first session of the Telangana assembly," the chief minister said, while replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the state governor for his address to the legislature.

KCR, as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief is popularly known, said this when Congress leader K. Jana Reddy felt that the governor during his address to the joint session of both assembly and council of the state legislature should have thanked Sonia Gandhi for her role in the formation of Telangana state.

The chief minister also thanked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh for supporting the demand for Telangana state.

KCR said 33 parties, including the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), supported the Telangana bill. "I thank them all on behalf of the people and the assembly of Telangana," he said.
