Mangalore, Jul 18: A labourer was crushed to death in a quarry at Kilinjar near Bajpe here on Monday July 17.
The deceased has been identified as Laxman (26), a local. One Malati who was helping Laxman in his work has sustained critical injuries in the tragedy. She is now admitted to Wenlock Hospital here. The doctors said that she is still fighting for life. Malati is deaf and dumb from her birth.
The tragedy occurred after a stone crushing machine slipped from its base and fell on Laxman. As a result Laxman was crushed to death on the spot while Malati sustained serious injuries.
The crusher is said to have slipped from its base owing to heavy rains which had lashed the area for the last couple of days. The said quarry is owned by one Vijaya Adapa.
A complaint has been registered by Bajpe police in this regard.
