Mangalore, Jun 15: Due to the heavy rain, Maxim Veigas (50) from Debbeli, Harekala village drowned while crossing a small bridge; he was found dead in the gutter next to his house here on Thursday June 12.
The locals said that Maxim was a farmer; everyday he used to get up early and used to go to the farm. On Thursday due to the heavy rain, while crossing the small bridge, he fell into the water and died.
Maxim's family members began searching for him till afternoon but could not find him. When the water started to receed, Maxim's body was found in the gutter.
Maxim is survived with his wife and son. His wife ties beedi and his son Nikhil is 17 years old. Due to the death of Maxim, his family is facing financial crisis.
When the tahsildar of Mangalore Guruprasad came to know about the incident, he immediately arranged Rs 1.5 lac to give to the Maxim's family as a compensation on the same day. But the family insisted that it be given after the funeral. So the family received the sum on Saturday June 14.
Gram Panchayath former president Mahabala Hegde, Debbeliguttu, taluk panchayath member Mustafa Harekala, revenue department and others were also present.
