Rio de Janeiro, June 15 (IANS/EFE): American robot manufacturing company iRobot Corporation has signed an agreement with the Brazilian government to provide 30 robots, worth 5.3 million euros, which will take part in the FIFA World Cup security plan.
Deputy head of the security and defence department of the company Tim Treiner said these robots have many security characteristics. They can take dangerous tasks such as defusing bombs or scanning areas suspected of hosting explosives, reports EFE.
‘Back Boat’, which moves on tank-like wheels and is controlled remotely, is one of the special robots participating in operations. It has a two-metre electronic arm which is able to lift up to 13 kgs. Only 4,500 ‘Back Boat’ robots have been manufactured till date.
