Belo Horizonte (Brazil), June 17 (IANS/EFE): Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal said the current Spanish team is stronger than the one which clinched the 2010 FIFA World Cup despite their 1-5 loss to the Netherlands Friday.
“With time, Spain has more quality players who are technically better. This Spain is much stronger than the one that won the World Cup. We saw the first half and I never thought the Netherlands would beat Spain," said Vidal Monday, reports EFE.
Vidal said that eliminating the Spaniards from the event would be “beautiful”.
“Our goal is not to eliminate any team in particular, but to be the World Champions.”
Spain take on Chile at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro Wednesday.
The Juventus midfielder expects Spain to come out “furiously” against them, but added that his team will commit to their style and try to have much possession.
