Sao Paulo, June 17 (IANS): The American football team arrived here at their base camp early Tuesday morning amidst heavy security following their 2-1 win over Ghana in their opening World Cup Group G encounter at the Arena das Dunas in Natal.
Security was tightened in Sao Paulo after a crude bomb explosion in the wee hours of Tuesday at the corner of Alameda Santos with Pamplona Street, approximately 30 metres from the Yankees' team hotel, Brazilian media reports said.
The team was escorted from the airport by a convoy of five security vehicles that had military police, army officers and private security guards.
According to a sergeant, those responsible with the explosion haven't been identified. Officers were scattered throughout the hotel's surroundings to avoid possible similar acts. The team bus was guarded by security officials even after it was parked at the team hotel.
