Beirut / New Delhi, Jul 20: About 500 Indians will be evacuated on Thursday from trouble-torn Lebanon, raising the number of the countrymen moved out of there to 600.
Indian warship INS Mumbai will enter the Lebanese harbour on Thursday morning and ferry about 500 Indians to Larnaca in Cyprus, Indian ambassador Nengbha Lahovum said over phone from Beirut on Wednesday night.
About 100 Indians have already reached Syrian capital Damascus by road with the help of the Indian mission. There are about 12,000 Indian nationals living in Lebanon.
The Indian Naval ship would also ferry people of some other countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal, she said. There are an estimated one lakh Sri Lankans and Nepalese in Lebanon.
The INS Mumbai is among four Naval warships sent to Lebanon to evacuate Indians. Others are the INS Betwa, the INS Brahmaputra and the INS Shakti.
