Rio de Janeiro, June 19 (IANS/EFE): Spain captain Iker Casillas has apologised to fans saying that his team was responsible for their elimination from the FIFA World Cup after their 0-2 loss to Chile Wednesday.
"We wanted to do everything possible to maintain the hopes of the fans but it has not happened. We should be asking for forgiveness and are primarily responsible. We will leave hurt and annoyed. We should look forward to reflect on what has occurred this time," the Spanish goalkeeper said, reports EFE.
Spain lost two consecutive games of Group B against Netherlands (1-5) and Chile. They will play an inconsequential final group match against Australia June 23.
