Rio de Janeiro, June 19 (IANS/EFE): Spain striker Fernando Torres lamented his side’s ouster from the FIFA World Cup after their 0-2 loss to Chile at the Maracana Stadium here Wednesday.
“The whole squad is upset about this but we have no excuses. We had tiredness in Poland and South Africa but we still won the tournaments,” Torres said, reports EFE.
The 30-year-old, who plays for Chelsea, said that Spain can still look back at what they achieved -- two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup.
After eliminating Spain from the tournament, Chile secured their place in the Round of 16 along with the Netherlands, who thrashed Spain 5-1 in the opening game of Group B.
Title holders Spain drew heavy criticism after suffering two consecutive losses.
