Montevideo (Uruguay), June 21 (IANS): Uruguayan dailies Friday hailed footballer Luis Suarez, whose two goals led the team to a 2-1 victory over England in the FIFA World Cup.
El Pais referred to Suarez as "His Majesty Luis IX" referring to his jersey number, adding that he had turned into "the King of Uruguayan football", reports Xinhua.
"He's the King, don't doubt it, the one who extends his domain each time he runs, steps on the field and blows away his adversaries with his steel backbone and indestructible soul," El Pais said.
Thanks to Thursday's win at Sao Paulo's Corinthians Arena, Uruguay, which without Suarez lost 1-3 to Costa Rica in the opener, accumulated three points towards qualifying for the next round.
El Observador said Suarez' "dream performance" decided the outcome of the game while La Diaria simply called him "A Monster".
Suarez' goals were all the more spectacular because he had a surgery as recently as May 22 and his participation in the World Cup was in doubt.
