MUMBAI, July 22: Heavy rains have been lashing the city since Friday night with weather bureau predicting intermittent rain or thundershowers, with possibility of heavy falls in parts of city and suburbs for on Saturday.

Colaba observatory in the city recorded 25.1 mm and suburban observatory at Santa Cruz recorded 24.3 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours till 86.30 am, the met department sources said.

Rain was also experienced at several places over Konkan-Goa, south Maharashtra and a few places in Gujarat region, they said.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur at most places over Konkan-Goa and Ghats area and at many places in central Maharashtra.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at a few places over Marathwada, the sources added.

 A total of 48 persons have died in the city in the past 20 days due to rain-related diseases, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said, but added there was "no cause for worry" as there was continuous surveillance being kept for any sign of an epidemic.
