Mumbai, June 24 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading flat in the pre-afternoon trade session Tuesday - up 282 points or 1.13 percent as capital goods, bank and metal stocks gained.
Healthy buying was also observed in oil and gas, automobile and consumer durables stocks. However, buying pressure was seen in IT, healthcare and technology, entertainment and media (TECK) sectors.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 25,115.83 points, was trading at 25,313.52 points around 11.00 a.m., up 282.20 points or 1.13 percent from the previous day's close at 25,031.32 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 25,359.97 points and a low of 25,115.83 points during trade so far.
The S&P BSE capital goods index was up 287.52 points, followed by bank index which gained 245.76 points, metal index (up 199.58 points), oil and gas index (up 150.36 points), automobile index (up 139.31 points) and consumer durables index grew by 103.06 points.
However, IT index lost 28.85 points, healthcare index was down 4.72 points and TECK index was lower by 3.83 points.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also made healthy gains. It was up 73.55 points or 0.98 percent at 7,566.90 points.
