Modi not to attend FIFA final


New Delhi, June 25 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be attending the World Cup football final, the external affairs ministry said Wednesday.

"There are no plans for Modi to be present at the FIFA final ahead of BRICS meeting," external affairs ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said.

Modi has been invited to the final of the FIFA World Cup football currently being held in Brazil, ahead of the summit of the BRICS countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, which will be held July 15-17 in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza.

The World Cup final is to be played in Rio de Janeiro July 13.
