Honduras coach quits after team's World Cup exit

Manaus (Brazil), June 26 (IANS): Honduras coach Luis Fernando Suarez has stepped down after the team was eliminated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Honduras fell to Switzerland 0-3 in the last Group E match Wednesday after suffering a 3-0 defeat by France and a 2-1 loss to Ecuador, reports Xinhua.

France and Switzerland made it to the Round of 16 that starts Saturday while Honduras ended their third World Cup finals journey with a bottom of the group finish.

Suarez, who was Honduras coach since 2011, said, "I'm sorry I didn't manage more. I'm sad because I had a dream about this World Cup."

The Colombian said his contract with the football federation would expire when the team was eliminated from the World Cup, but he decided after the match to step aside regardless and let someone else take over.
