Mangalore, Jul 26: Tuesday, Jul 25 can be aptly called the ‘Day of Protest’. The city witnessed three protests.
While the talk of the town was the massive protest rally by Catholic orgaisations with was dotted with stray incidents of violence, the Bank employees and Port workers too organized separate protests in the city.
The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) staged a protest to urge the government to fill the vacant posts in the various nationalised bank
The protestors condemned the UPA government and RBI for bringing out anti-banking policies in the country. They alleged that the Centre is planning not to recruit employees for more than one lac vacant posts in the bank when there are 17 crore people unemployed in the country.
District Bank Employees Association General Secretary Ajay Manjrekar, Karnataka Pradesh Bank Employees Federation Joint Secretary Walter Lasrado and Corporation Bank Employees Association General Secretary K S Joshi lead the protest.
The workers of New Mangalore Port Trust organized a protest placing several demands before the government. A memorandum with several issues related to the ports was submitted to the Chairman of NMPT.
The protest was organised jointly by New Mangalore Port Staff Association, Karnataka Dock and General Workers Union in which Sureshchandra Shetty, office bearers Dinesh Achari and others were present.
