Hassan, Jul 26:
A 25-year-old woman employee of a call centre in Bangalore was found murdered on a national highway near Sakleshpur in Karnataka's Hassan district today, a senior police official said.

The body of Tanya Bannerjee with stab wounds was found abandoned on the Bangalore-Mangalore National Highway near Sakleshpur, Hassan district Superintendent of Police P H Rane told PTI over phone.

Tanya, hailing from West Bengal, was working with Aviva Customer Operation Services Private Limited in Bangalore and certain documents with her helped in identifying the victim, he said.

Villagers found the body and informed the police outpost nearby. A probe team has been formed and Bangalore police informed about the recovery of the body, he said.

This is the second incident involving the murder of a call centre employee after Pratibha was found allegedly raped and killed by her vehicle driver in Bangalore several months ago.

The incident then had raised concerns about the safety of women working in call centres, prompting the police and companies to ensure implementation of better safeguards.

Bangalore has emerged as a hub of call centre operations, giving jobs to more than one lakh people.
