Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), June 28 (IANS/EFE): Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the setting up of a committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the elimination of the 'Black Stars' from the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Ghana failed to make it past the first round after they were defeated by Portugal in their final group match. Mahama sees the decision to fuse the old players with the new ones partly contributed to their ouster, reports EFE.
“Often you get to a junction where you have a new breed of players coming up and you have senior players and you try to weld them together. Sometimes the welding leads to great success but sometimes it leads to a few problems,” the president said here.
“We need to look at the team as a whole. We need to set up a committee to look at the whole system of what happened in Brazil 2014 right from the preparation, through the build up to the World Cup, to when they went to Brazil, to what happened in Brazil until they came back. Let's rebuild, let's do a post mortem and see what went wrong and see what we could have done better and fix it.”
While urging the nation to take heart after a disappointing loss, Mahama also asked Ghana to continue supporting the team even in their loss.
