Beijing, June 28 (IANS): Calling for a new paradigm of global action, India Saturday asked countries across the globe to work together to develop a framework for genuine multilateralism and seek common and fair solutions for challenges that transcend national borders.
"Our destinies are intertwined. Our quest is, should be, for a framework in which opportunities and challenges for the betterment of our societies co-exist," Vice President M. Hamid Ansari said at the commemoration here of the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the Panchsheel agreement, which enunciates the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
In this endeavour, he said, Panchsheel can act as a "catalyst to help us better coordinate our efforts, enhance mutual understanding, share developmental experiences and tackle trans-national threats more effectively".
Ansari said India believed that globalisation should transform the world into, as Mahatma Gandhi had envisaged, "a federation of friendly, interdependent nations", without domination or exploitation.
"Panchsheel is the basis of such a world order. We need to work together to develop a framework for equitable globalisation, for genuine multilateralism, and for seeking common and fair solutions for challenges that transcend national borders and threaten humanity."
He said as co-originators of Panchsheel, India, China and Myanmar should also seek to revitalize their friendly relations and promote cooperation as the only way forward towards realisation of common goals of progress and prosperity.
