Fortaleza (Brazil), June 29 (IANS/EFE): Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder has stressed on his team’s ambition to win the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“When I start a tournament, I always want to win it and, of course, some are easier to win. Four years ago, for example, it was a tough challenge for us but everything in the group was good and the whole process worked well for us,” Sneijder said, reports EFE.
“We reached the final that we lost. That was one of the hardest moments of my career. But the beautiful thing about football is that you always have the opportunity to gain revenge and here we are four years later."
Sneijder added that his team can win the mega-event which concludes at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro July 13.
“Why can’t we win this time? I believe we have a great team and great spirit.”
Sneijder said that some doubted his team’s abilities to qualify from the group but the team gained all possible nine points from Group B. He also praised coach Louis van Gaal, saying that he has absolute authority over the team.
