Puttur, Jul 27: A group of four persons who entered one Dr Shastri's house at Nelyadi here on patients' guise have decamped with ornaments and valuables worth Rs 2.12 lac on Wednesday July 26 night.

Dr Shivshankar Shastri, a resident of Hosamajaul near Koukradi owns a clinic at Nelyadi.  His house is situated beside Hosamajalu National Highway at Koukradi.  On Wednesday night four unidentified persons came to his house around 8.30.  They said that one of them was suffering from acute stomach ache.  Having heard them from the window, Dr Shastri asked them to sit in the clinic in the outhouse.

Later Dr Shastri opened his house door and went to see the patient.  As he was checking-up the patient, two persons who had come along with the patient tied Dr Shastri's hands and asked him to take them inside his house.

After going inside house, they shut his mouth with a piece of cloth and bound him with a rope.  Later they tied his wife Vasanti too and then robbed 33 sovereigns of gold and Rs 22,000 in cash.  Before leaving the house, they locked the couple inside the prayer room.

It is said that they threatened the couple of killing in case they informed the police.  It was only after a long time that the couple shouted for help, hearing which the neighbours came and rescued them.  They were later admitted to a private hospital.

Dr Shivshankar Shastri and his wife Vasanti were only the two persons residing their house "Vardhamana."  They two children are studying in Puttur and are residing in the hostel there.

Puttur DySP Mithra Heraje, rural circle inspector Ramesh and other police officials visited the place.  Sniffer dogs and finger print experts too visited the place.

A complaint has been filed in the Uppinandgady police station in this regard.
