Petrol price hiked by Rs 1.69 a litre, diesel by 50 paise

New Delhi, Jun 30 (IANS): State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) Monday hiked the petrol price by Rs.1.69 a litre, excluding taxes, effective from midnight, owing to a rise in global oil prices and exchange rates.

Diesel prices were also hiked by 50 paise per litre.

"Due to geo-political unrest in the Middle East, there has been significant increase in international oil prices during the past two weeks", Indian Oil said here in a release.

The government had, in January 2013, permitted OMCs to increase the diesel price by small doses of up to 50 paise per litre every month till their losses on this account are completely eliminated.

Even after the current increase, under recovery, or losses, on sale of diesel shall stand at Rs.3.40 per litre, it added.

    Wow what a BJP Drama…
Before the election Modi’s slogan was “Achhe Din Aane Waale Hain”
Now after election “India Ke Burien Din Aane Whale Hain Aur Hamare (BJP) Jheb Barne Waale Hain”. What a shame on people who trusted fake people like BJP leaders and Modi and elected as a PM. Before the election we can see Modi is busy in everywhere attending the rallies and spent crores on money for no reason and giving fake promises to the people. “Achhe Din Aane Waale Hain”. But now where is Modi? It seems like he was busy in fulfilling his own pocket and BJP leaders.
Now BJP will try to utilize as much as they can in 5 years and they will loot the economy.
Common guys we all are educated don’t trust those people who give you fake promises like BJP.
We are a common people and govt is not bothered about the inflation. Finally we will suffer and we have to spend own money from our pocket.

In 2008 all the developed countries in the world experienced a massive downward trend due to recession, and yet the UPA led the country on the economic development which was appreciated by the entire world. Unfortunately, UPA did not make any propaganda about this and BJP with the help of the media and big corporate houses brought up some issues and promised heaven on earth which went against UPA in 2014. Frankly speaking, MMS Government was more efficient than NAMO Government in all the fronts. The common man who voted for BJP feels that he was fooled by the BJP propaganda and advertisements and regret voting for them. Congress led UPA made some mistakes but they were for the poor and middle class people and tried their best. Since they were in coalition with only 205 seats they could not succeed in some areas. On the other hand BJP with 286 seats and a thumping majority should be able to do much more. However, things are not going good for the common people.

This Govt. has no shame to go back on their word to keep prices in check. They fooled many many voters with their promises.
If they were complaining about inflation\price rise when oil prices\depression world wide was happening and throwing themselves at UPA's throat accusing them of mis-governance - why it should be any different now. BJP Govt. and the very VOCAL (Opp. of MMS) PM who insisted and blamed earlier Govt., should be very well versed to keep all the prices down. He said he has all the tricks up sleeves to do that.
Do the BJPians find those throat blowing speeches by their (now ours too) very vocal PM have any effect at all on steep rise in prices which make AAM ADMI to suffer from the last one month and what will be in store for all of us in the coming months....??
I do not see BJP doing anything at all except announce price hike item by item one after another.

Congress followers understand this and actually do not blame the present Govt. as the situation has worsened due to rise in prices on items we import. Similarly why BJPians did not understand the real problems then? Now every one of us have to suffer because of a incompetent Govt. at the center.

Unfortunately, Congress has also given the country record deficits ,empty coffers and mindless vote bank schemes. Rhetoric aside, people should comment how their plans on how to reduce the deficit.

Arun Shourie during the Vajapayee govt nearly succeeded in privatizing the state owned OMCs. Had he succeeded, the government intervention in setting petrol prices would have ended.

It is high time the subsidies on both petrol and diesel are eliminated., and state owned OMCs must be privatized and allowed to set their own prices.

Now at least come out from your slumber and following blindly.
When the chaaiwaala won the elections immediately sensex rose up, rupee value increased and all the P.R.O’s of bjp have said that this had happened because of Modi and rejoiced. At that time had you been in fool’s paradise and now when prices of necessities are increasing your senses recognizes of your faults blindly supporting the chaaiwaala. Yet you couldn't open the eyes when UPA was ruling. You have had blamed enough to UPA and the same now you are explaining.

Open your eyes now at least a person who couldn’t sustain his own family and no knowledge of history and economics, how will he cop with the nation of families and nation’s economics.

For Mr. Ravi Shetty don't get aggressive, In this article what i can see the comments posted are showing the difference in opinion of each individual in Price Hike whether it comes to majority or minorities community but one thing we should understand it effects both so we have to be united. Election 2014 was already planned like cricket match fixing. please visit this website greatgameindia the-kingmakers-baker-street-spies-indian-elections.

In 2008 when the world was hit by recession the only country was not affected was INDIA and the credit fully goes to Congress policy. The world thinks that if India gets developed they might come out of recession which is still going on. The reason i feel Mr. Narendra Modi has been appointed is that he works like a dictator. So we have to wait and watch the outcome. Finally, Aache din doesn't comes free you have to pay for it.

@ Puneet - who says UPA ruined the economy? MMS gave India a 8.5% average growth over 10 years, and made India into a Global powerhouse of a USD 2 trillion economy. We successfully tackles global recession.

MMS saw that India's GDP grew from USD 600 billion in 2004, to USD 2 trillion in 2014. Per capita income well.

Forex reserves are at USD 320 billion as against USD 90 billion in 2004.

PLEASE STOP FEKUING and cribbing. If NDA doesn't want to give subsidies and welfare to poor, they can scrap the same in the forthcoming budget. Lets see if they will do so, or like their Vote Bank politics, revoke the Train fare hike in Mumbai.

For starters instead of closed door meetings and all that non-sense, raom the streets of India and take a look at the 'plight of the common man'. You will be thrown out ..if you do not do it at the earliest.
Pray-Can anybody here tell me -How is this Government different?

Automobiles are suffering by carrying and moving since a couple of centuries. The huge dead weight (of commuters and goods) on wheels can be used as a powerful pushing force and the opportunity is to save a huge volume of fuel, eliminate pollutions and reduce transport costly, drastically. If there is budget/provision for R&D, we can have a rapid revolution in the surface transport sector to make a world of difference.

Mr. Kamath, Iraq crises and raise in crude oil prices is hardly a reason to give for those who do not know how to manage the situation, there are so many other areas where money is totally mismanaged and same money can be channeled to meet the oil price high without increasing the fuel prices and pass on the burden again on common public and that is called good governance !, it is unfortunate that a country like India is managed by people elected who doesn’t even understand the ABCD of economics and facts of good and efficient governance, it is again a misfortune for those IAS people who sandwich under these illiterate elected candidates who’s main mantra is mismanagement for their own self benefit, this is applicable across all party lines.

when a Patient with Fever comes to me some patients panic and say doctor please bring down tempt .Then I explain them Fever is just a symptom actually infection is the cause and hence we need to give antibiotics and then fever comes down similarly here price is due to 2 factors 1. Iraq crises 2.Too costly dollar against Rupee the main culprit .If we bring down Dollar close to Rs 45 (at which level NDA lead by Vajpayee gave to UPA in 2004)then even if Iraq crisis escalates we can manage the price .Th Oil price will come down by atleast Rs 14 per Litre.
Great thing about Modi Govt is just yesterday India and China signed an MOU for Chinese manufacturing companies investing in India .This will greatly increase Exports from india and bring down the trade deficit and hence Increase the Rupee value greatly .We can expect atleast Rupee will increase to Rs 50 per Dollar within an year or 2 .This is called real Governance .Oil prices will automatically come down .It is said Chinese Correcting Trade Deficit in India is USD 35 Billion Very big amount .

Now the Eurozone and Japan are slowing down. The positive news form the U.S. about the recovery is not the full truth.

In this predicament, how you can project the the value of Rs to be stronger through strengthening export, thus to bring down the price of oil for the consumers in India? More jack up pricing will be coming to create income for the central government. Bitter pills swallowing has simply started.

MR. PRIME MINISTER!!! HERE ARE BETTER METHODS TO HELP THE COMMON MAN IN SUCH TIMES.

    1. STOP ALL THE FREEBIES TO THE MINISTERS AND THEIR STAFF. LET THEM PAY FOR EVERYTHING FROM THEIR POCKETS JUST A S I DO.
    2. STOP ALL FREEBIES FOR THE LEGISLATORS AND THEIR STAFF.
    3. YOU DONT NEED A SUBSIDIZED CANTEEN FACILITY IN PARLIAMENT SINCE IT WOULD BE A SHAME TO MAKE USE OF FREEBIES WHEN YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY.
    4. PLEASE PAY FOR YOUR OWN FUEL. YOU ARE MAKING USE OF TRANSPORT TO GET TO YOUR WORK PLACE OR IN DISCHARGING YOUR DUTY. NO ONE PAYS ME FOR THE SAME THING THAT I DO. ASK YOUR MINISTERS AND ALL THE LEGISLATORS TO DO THE SAME.

Privatize the OMCs. There is no ways any government can curb deficit while massively subsidizing fuel forever. Market based pricing is beneficial for the OMCs as well as the consumers. When the global prices fall, so will the price at pumps., and when there is a spike in crude oil price, the government will be spared from soaking up the losses.

Secondly , a market based system will encourage competition which is good for consumers. Today, you have all OMCs fixing the price., in a free market economy, the price will vary from pump to pump and company to company. Subsidies is just another form of wellfare which is not sustainable.

Mr. Shetty, I saw some dogs used to bark here before election as if there would be a miraculous change in a day after the new government takes charge. Same dogs can't bark like before because their government is nothing different than the earlier government and they don't know how to save their face!
