Udupi, Jul 28: The tri-monthly review meeting of Karnataka Development Project (KDP), was held on Thursday July 27 here.
At the meeting, Dr V S Acharya, district in-charge minister, passed an order to prohibit the entry of overloaded manganese-laden trucks into the district. He instructed the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, to restrict the entry of such trucks with effect from Saturday July 29. Whilst asking the officials to act on his instructions to ban the trucks, he said he will see to its legal implications at the state-level. He quoted that the plying of overloaded trucks has resulted in the devastation of National Highway 17.
Acharya also asked the exporters association to re-install the weighing bridge at Shiroor, which has been dismantled.
He added that the state government would provide funds for the immediate repairs of NH 17, and that the union government would be informed about the entire repair work of the said highway.
Subramanyeshwara Rao, superintendent of police, K Raghupathi Bhat, MLA, Balakrishna, executive engineer, National Highways Department and M P Omkareshwari, RTO, were present at the meeting.
