Puttur, Jul 29: The Uppinangady police directed by DySP Mithra Heraje and CI Manjunath Rai achieved a major breakthrough in the Nelyadi robbery case by arresting five persons including the prime accused in this regard on Friday July 28.

While the prime accused Abbas alias Oriminute Abbas, a resident of Gandhi Park area of Uppinangady was arrested here, four others were held in Sakleshpur. 

As reported earlier four persons who came in the guise of patients had decamped with 33 sovereigns of gold and Rs 22,000 in cash from Dr Shivshankar Shastris' house beside Hosamajal road on Wednesday July 26 night.  The robbers had also stolen a gas cylinder from the house.

Based on this information, police collected information about a Maruti van which is being spotted often in Nelydi area.  This led police to arrest Abbas and the police also seized his brother Latif's Maruti car which was used in the robbery.  The gas cylinder was stolen with a purpose of using it as fuel to the car. 

During the investigation Abbas spilt the beans about the entire episode.  Immediately Uppinangady SI S Ramesh got into action and arrested four others at Sakleshpur on Friday July 28 evening.

However, two more persons including the one who has the stolen booty managed escape.  It is said that they have gone to Balehonnur area in Chikamagalur.  The residents of Nelyadi have congratulated the police for having achieved breakthrough and arrested the prime accused in the robbery case within 24 hours of robbery.
