The nabbed assailant has been identified as Chtiharanjan Bangera who is of Mangalorean origin.

A quick headway in the case, the Mumbai police after successfully drilling Bangera arrested two other accomplices. The duo has been identified as Ratnakar and Jayaram of Mangalore.

With a tip off from the locals, the police sprang into action and found three men consuming alcohol next to Sai Leela Hotel conversing in Tulu Language. This helped the cops to easily identify their places of origin.

On Jul 28, Chitharanjan Bangera was closely following the movement of Shekar Kotian around the hotel. As the time Kotian was about to leave the hotel, Bangera shot at him with an US made AK 38 pistol.

Kotian escaped miraculously as the bullets from the revolver did not function properly. The accused made at least 5 attempts in triggering the pistol, but all in vain, giving enough time for Kotian to save his life.

The accused fled the place. The personal driver of Kotian and other workers of hotel rushed after the miscreants and managed to pin down Bangera.

Kotian while speaking to daijiworld in Mumbai said that he had received extortion calls from a person who claimed to be a gang member of the underworld don Hemanth Poojary. However he ruled out the possibility of the involvement of Hemanth as the accused were from Mangalore. Further Kotian suspects it to be an attempt to harm him in relation to some property dispute back home.

The Mumbai police are investigating the case.
