Armless Chinese man fined for driving without licence


Beijing, July 4 (IANS): An armless man in China was fined for driving without a licence after police caught him using his feet on the steering wheel.

The driver, 45, belongs to Hubei Province and the incident took place while he was driving with a friend, Shanghai Daily reported.

On being questioned by the police, the man said that his arms were amputated when he was seven years old due to an accident involving high-voltage power lines.

He also said that he had already driven 160,000 km without a licence and has never had an accident.

The man uses his his left foot to control the steering wheel and changes gears using his right foot, police officials said.

The police fined the man 500 yuan (about $80).

The man said that he learned to drive using his feet when he saw a friend of his doing soit and thought it did not look very difficult.
