Brazil celebrates reaching World Cup semifinal


Rio de Janeiro, July 5 (IANS/EFE): Thousands of Brazilian fans flocked to the streets here to celebrate their country’s 2-1 win over Colombia in the quarterfinals, taking them into the last four of the World Cup.

After the victory, the fans celebrated with loud music and fireworks across Brazil except Belo Horizonte as residents there are mourning the overpass collapse that killed two people and injured more than 20, reports EFE.

This is Brazil’s first semifinal in the World Cup since 2002. They will take on Germany, who beat France 1-0 in the other quarterfinal.
