Mangalore, Aug 1: Vishwas Saralaya of MGM, Udupi has bagged the title amidst the presence of stalwarts in the Derik's Chess School, Invitational Fischer Rapid Chess
The tournament was held at DCS on Jul 29 and 30.

Vishwas scored 5 points in 6 rounds and bettered Prakash V Rao of Canara College and Vikram Saralaya of Canara College of Engineering who also were tied with 5 points with lesser progressive score. Prakash Rao outwitted veteran Gopalakrishna P in the final round to bag the second place. Vikram Saralaya scored fluently against his brother Vishwas after recovering from early loss against Koushik R.
Vikram was placed third. Top-seeded Sriram Kote of Sullia overcame the strong challenge posed by Adith Jagadish to take his tally to 4 points. Nihal Manjunat of Lourdes Central School was awarded Best Junior Player with 4 points.
The two-day event was conducted in 6 round Swiss league format. Fischer rapid time control was facilitated with introduction of Fischer mode digital clocks on all the boards.
At the valedictory, FIDE Rated Sriram Kote distributed prizes to the winners. He also appreciated the efforts of DCS in promoting youngsters and advised youngsters to benefit from such tournaments which provide opportunity and exposure.
