Mangalore, Aug 1: The city-based various autorickshaw associations have decided to hold a day-long rickshaw strike on Friday August 4 demanding a hike in fare.

A decision in this regard was taken during the meeting of various rickshaw associations such as CITU, HMS, Shramika Sanghatane, Minority Drivers and Owners Associations.  More than 100 representatives of rickshaw stands too were present during the meeting. B Vishnumurty, convener of the coordination committee of Dakshina Kannada Autorickshaw Drivers Association.

All those who were present unanimously decided to call for a day-long strike.  Most of them were of the opinion that autorickshaw drivers are treated badly by all.  While bus fare has been hiked thrice in the last couple of years, rickshaw fare has not been revised, they said.

Accordingly the rickshaw drivers will hold the strike on Friday August 4.
