Tehran, July 7 (IANS): Iran will field a young team at the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup to be held in Wuhan, China from July 11-19.

"We don't have some of our key players in the competition but it's a good opportunity to field the new players to earn experience," Iran coach Memi Becirovic was quoted as saying by the Tehran Times Monday, reports Xinhua.

Iran, who have been drawn in Pool A along with host China, India, Indonesia and Japan, will open their campaign against Japan July 11.

Pool B consists of Chinese Taipei, Jordan, the Philippines and Singapore.

Becirovic said his team will travel to Poland, Slovenia and Estonia after the Asian Cup to prepare for the FIBA World Cup.

The 17th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place in Spain from Aug 30 to Sep 14.
