Mangalore, Aug 4: A day-long strike call given by auto rickshaw organizations was successful in the city as all the rickshaw drivers supported the strike and did not ply rickshaws.

The strike has been organized demanding hike in rickshaw fare following a hike in fuel prices.

Rickshaw drivers led by the leader of various associations held a protest rally on Friday August 4 morning in front of the RTO here.  Though the march was peaceful, it turned violent as it reached RTO since some protestors blocked the road for other vehicles.

The protest march started from Light House Hill and was supported to culminate near RTO.  But they demanded that even other vehicles should be allowed to ply on the road during their protest meet.  This led to tense situation which came under control owing to immediate intervention by police.
